Zimmer on Thursday announced that it received FDA 510(k) clearance to market iASSIST Knee, a personalised guidance system for knee replacement procedures. Zimmer Reconstructive president Jeff McCaulley said that the "simple, disposable intraoperative device" provides "accurate implant positioning and alignment validation without the complexity, cost and time associated with current capital-intensive navigation and robotic systems."
The technology features small electronic disposable components that are used at the surgical site and provide instantaneous, accurate alignment validation through an electronic display, the company noted.
