Komodo Health and Blue Health Intelligence (BHI) on Tuesday entered into a multi-year agreement to integrate BHI's real-world patient data into Komodo's Healthcare Map, which tracks the "unique journeys" of over 325 million patients in the US. Financial terms were not disclosed, but the companies said the partnership will enrich the Healthcare Map by "driving insights to help close gaps in care, identify high-risk patients, and speed drug development."
Arif Nathoo, CEO of Komodo, remarked that "life sciences companies will have a choice in how they access BHI's data and resulting aggregated insights for the first time," adding that "integrated into [our] Healthcare Map, these insights will arm life sciences companies with the critical intelligence and real-world data needed to truly understand what's happening in healthcare as they advance therapeutics and vaccines."
According to Komodo, the Healthcare Map is used for in-depth profiling of distinct patient populations and providers, analysis of diagnosis patterns and treatment milestones, monitoring patient movement between providers, and tracking treatment progression. The data is also accessible across multiple software applications through Komodo's platform.
Deeper, more diverse coverage
Komodo said incorporating BHI's longitudinal, de-identified medical and pharmacy commercial claims data into the Healthcare Map will allow it to expand the breadth of its nationally representative patient population as well as add "deeper and more diverse coverage to create a more precise view of individual patient experiences." In turn, this "can better equip healthcare stakeholders to understand gaps in care, identify opportunities for early intervention, and pinpoint clinical trial candidates," it added.
Speaking to FirstWord MedTech, BHI said that prior to this partnership with Komodo, it had been tied into an exclusive agreement with another company, but that partnership is now no longer exclusive. BHI added it is "always open to partnering with other stakeholders to help improve healthcare." Meanwhile, Komodo noted that its strategy is to collaborate "with a large number of data providers and health plans in order to create the most complete and connected view of patient encounters within the US healthcare system."
Earlier this month, Komodo announced its acquisition of Mavens, a provider of cloud-based technology solutions geared to the life sciences industry, for an undisclosed sum.
