GoodRx launches virtual medicine cabinet to help consumers manage prescriptions

Online pharmacy and telehealth app GoodRx on Thursday launched a virtual medicine cabinet to help consumers manage their medication. The company said the offering allows users to keep track of their prescriptions, get refill and daily pill reminders, find low prices, and earn rewards for staying on track. According to GoodRx, the tool will enable users to adhere to their treatment plans and manage their overall healthcare costs.

"Tracking a variety of medicines and remembering when to take them is a real challenge, but for many Americans, it gets even harder juggling refills, navigating multiple pharmacies and managing costs," chief product officer Mark Hull explained. "With Medicine Cabinet, we are addressing these hurdles by making medication management easier and giving consumers more control over their prices, leveraging much of the prescription history consumers already have on GoodRx," Hull said.

The app features an action centre that highlights important information needed to stay on top of medications, as well as pharmacy recommendations and a prescriptions dashboard that automatically populates all medications filled using GoodRx. Medicine Cabinet also has a rewards programme where consumers can earn points when they use an eligible GoodRx coupon or pick up their refills on time, and which they can then put toward discounts on prescriptions.

Early data on engagement

GoodRx said consumers who use Medicine Cabinet are nearly four times as likely to claim prescriptions at the pharmacy than non-registered users. It noted that these users are also managing more prescriptions in the app, leading to over 40% more prescriptions filled than non-registered users in the first six months after initially filling a medication. Medicine Cabinet is currently available on Apple's iOS, with plans to launch on Android soon.

Earlier this year, GoodRx agreed to pay a $1.5-million fine to settle allegations by the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) that it failed to notify users that it shared their personal health data with companies including Google and Facebook for advertising purposes.
