Intuitive surgical sees robotic systems demand surge in India

Intuitive Surgical said it is seeing increased demand for its robotic surgical system from hospitals in India, The Economic Times reported.

The demand for robotic-assisted surgical systems isn't limited to large hospital chains of metro and tier-1 cities, but is also coming from standalone hospitals and hospitals based in smaller cities, the news source reported.

"We have more than doubled our installations in a year compared to what we were doing pre-Covid," noted Mandeep Singh Kumar, vice president and country general manager of Intuitive India.

He said the push is the result of pent-up demand from hospitals not investing in the technology during the pandemic. Kumar added that hospitals realized the importance of shorter recovery times that robotic-assisted surgery provides.
