Allara bags $10 million to scale virtual care for women with chronic hormonal conditions

Virtual care platform Allara announced Wednesday that it has raised $10 million in Series A funding to support women living with complex hormonal and gynaecological conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and endometriosis.

CEO Rachel Blank believes "women's health is often misperceived as limited to pregnancy and fertility, failing to acknowledge the intricate web of health conditions that affect women's daily lives and long-term health." She said the company takes "the burden off the patient to navigate a siloed care system."

The funding round was led by GV with participation from Great Oaks Venture Capital, Humbition, Vanterra, Gaingels, and individual investors. GV general partner Frédérique Dame will join Allara's board of directors.

Monthly subscription

The company launched its virtual care platform in 2021 to connect patients with specially trained doctors and registered dietitians for ongoing care. Allara offers patients a monthly subscription service to access medical, lifestyle, nutrition, and emotional support.

Over the past year, the startup said it has grown its patient base fivefold and partnered with major insurers in eight US states. It plans to expand nationwide by next year. Allara will use the funding to extend its insurance coverage, conduct clinical research, and partner with health systems to continue patient care.

In August, virtual women's health clinic Visana secured more than $10 million in seed funding to offer full-service clinical care for various health issues including menopause, endometriosis, fibroids, and PCOS.
