Abridge links up with Epic, Mayo Clinic to design genAI tool for nurses

Abridge has partnered with Mayo Clinic and Epic to develop a generative AI (genAI) ambient documentation workflow to ease the administrative burden for nurses across the US. The companies will work alongside Mayo Clinic's nurses to design and test the tool, which is expected to launch by the end of the year.

Emily Barey, vice president of nursing at Epic, said the collaboration "holds the potential to rethink how nurses document in an electronic health record today by bringing the voice of the patient and the nurse directly into the record."

Abridge's AI-powered platform transforms patient-clinician conversations into real-time structured clinical notes, addressing more than 50 specialities.

The startup previously teamed up with Epic to integrate its clinical documentation solution into the company’s workflows, becoming the first "Pal" in Epic’s "Partners and Pals" programme.

The latest tie-up will now see Abridge's technology extended and linked into Epic's nursing workflow platform.

Earlier this year, Abridge secured a $150-million series C, months after raising $30 million in a B round. The company's technology has already been deployed at a number of health systems, including UChicago Medicine, Sutter Health, Yale New Haven Health System, Emory Healthcare and UPMC.
